Chilled water piping and pump replacement
We replace old chilled water mains and primary pumps in stages, so the building keeps its cooling through the season.
Scope of work
- Demolition of existing chilled water mains
- New welded and grooved distribution piping
- Pump replacement with new bases and alignment
- Air separation and expansion
- Insulation, flushing, and chemical treatment
Notes
Replacing chilled water piping is about working out which sections can be shut down, and when, without cutting off cooling to the building. We isolate one section at a time and add temporary bypasses where we need to, so the system keeps running while we work.
New pumps go on isolated bases and get laser-aligned. A pump that’s even slightly out of line wears out its seals and bearings early.
Before the system goes back into service we flush it and treat the water. If you skip that, all the debris from the work ends up in the coils and valves.
