What we do

What we do for homes

Furnace replacement

High-efficiency gas furnaces, sized for your house. We measure first instead of just matching the old unit.

Air conditioning

New condensers and coils, installed and charged properly. The line set and the refrigerant charge make a big difference to how long it lasts.

Heat pumps

Cold-climate heat pumps that keep heating in an Ohio January, with backup heat for the coldest days.

Ductless mini-splits

For additions, finished attics, garages, or the one bedroom that never feels right. No ductwork needed.

Ductwork

If the second floor is always warm or a room never heats up, it’s usually the ducts. We check them before we suggest a bigger unit.

Indoor air quality

Better filtration, humidifiers and ventilation. Most useful if someone in the house has allergies or the air gets very dry in winter.

Tune-ups

A yearly check for each system: AC in the spring, furnace in the fall. It catches worn parts before they leave you without heat.

Emergency service

No heat, no AC, or a burning smell? Call us. Don’t fill out a form and wait.

Questions

What people usually ask

Can it be repaired, or do I need a new one?
If the unit is under about twelve years old and the repair is a few hundred dollars, repair it. If it’s older than that, or the repair is close to a third of the cost of a new system, replacing it usually makes more sense. We’ll tell you which one we’d do.
How long does a changeout take?
A straight furnace and AC swap is usually a day. It can take longer if the ductwork needs changes or the chimney needs a liner.
Why is one room always cold?
Almost always airflow. It could be a return that’s too small, a crushed flex duct, or a trunk line that was never resized when the house was added onto. A bigger furnace won’t fix it.
What about rebates?
High-efficiency equipment often qualifies for utility rebates and federal tax credits. We’ll tell you what the equipment we quoted qualifies for and give you the paperwork. You file the claim yourself.

Before you call

Things to check before you call

You don’t need any tools for these. If none of them fix it, call 440-213-7798 and let us know what you’ve already tried.

If you smell gas, don’t do any of this. Get out of the house, then call the gas company or 911 once you’re outside. Don’t flip any switches on the way out.

No heat

  1. 1

    Thermostat

Set to Heat, set point above the room temperature. Replace the batteries if the screen is blank or dim.

  2. 2

    Furnace switch

There’s a switch that looks like a light switch on or near the furnace. Make sure it’s on, and that the breaker hasn’t tripped.

  3. 3

    Filter

A clogged filter can make the furnace overheat and shut itself off. If it’s grey all the way through, swap it.

  4. 4

    Front panel

The furnace won’t run with its door off or loose. Push it fully closed.

  5. 5

    Vent pipes outside

High-efficiency furnaces vent through two white plastic pipes on an outside wall. After a snowstorm, clear any drift or ice off them.

No AC

  1. 1

    Thermostat

Set to Cool, fan on Auto, set point below the room temperature.

  2. 2

    Power

Check the breaker for the indoor and outdoor units, and the grey disconnect box on the wall next to the outdoor unit.

  3. 3

    Ice on the lines

If the copper pipe or the coil is frosted, turn cooling off and run the fan only for a few hours. Then change the filter.

  4. 4

    Water near the furnace

A full drain pan or a tripped float switch shuts the AC off on purpose. Tell us when you call.

  5. 5

    Outdoor unit

Clear grass clippings, leaves and cottonwood fluff off the sides of the unit.

Rooftop unit down

  1. 1

    Schedule

Check the thermostat or building controls aren’t in unoccupied or holiday mode.

  2. 2

    Disconnect

Each unit has a disconnect switch on the roof next to it. Make sure nobody left it off after a service visit.

  3. 3

    Alarm codes

Write down any code on the thermostat, or the blinking light on the unit’s control board. It helps us figure out what’s wrong faster.

  4. 4

    Breakers

Reset a tripped breaker once. If it trips again, leave it off and call.

  5. 5

    Roof access

Only go up if it’s safe. If it isn’t, just tell us how to get on the roof.

Through the year

Seasonal maintenance

A few things worth doing each season. Most of them take about ten minutes.

  1. Spring

    Mar – May

    • Get the AC checked in spring, before the first hot week. Everyone calls at once when it gets hot.
    • Clear leaves and cottonwood off the outdoor unit.
  2. Summer

    Jun – Aug

    • Check the filter every month while the AC is running hard.
    • Keep an eye out for water around the furnace. A clogged condensate drain will shut the AC off.
  3. Fall

    Now

    Sep – Nov

    • Have the furnace checked before the first cold snap.
    • Test your carbon monoxide detectors and put in new batteries.
  4. Winter

    Dec – Feb

    • After a big snow, clear the drifts away from the white furnace vent pipes outside.
    • If you’re going away, leave the heat at 55°F or higher so the pipes don’t freeze.
