More about us

How a job goes

  1. 01

    You call us

Call or fill out the estimate form. If you’ve got no heat, call.

  2. 02

    We come take a look

For anything bigger than a repair, we come out and see it before we price it.

  3. 03

    You get a written price

It lists the equipment, the labor and anything that’s not included. You’ll usually have it the next business day.

  4. 04

    We do the work

We install it, start it up and show you how it works before we leave.

What you can expect from us

  1. We do the work ourselves.

Whoever comes out to price your job is on the crew that does it.

  2. We size it to your house.

We look at the square footage, insulation and windows before we pick a unit. One that’s too big runs in short bursts and leaves the air damp.

  3. You get the price in writing first.

Equipment, labor and anything that isn’t included. We don’t start until you’ve okayed it.

  4. We’ll tell you if it’s not the equipment.

Sometimes the problem is the ductwork or the thermostat. If that’s the case, you’ll hear it from us before we sell you anything.

Before you call

Things to check before you call

You don’t need any tools for these. If none of them fix it, call 440-213-7798 and let us know what you’ve already tried.

If you smell gas, don’t do any of this. Get out of the house, then call the gas company or 911 once you’re outside. Don’t flip any switches on the way out.

No heat

  1. 1

    Thermostat

Set to Heat, set point above the room temperature. Replace the batteries if the screen is blank or dim.

  2. 2

    Furnace switch

There’s a switch that looks like a light switch on or near the furnace. Make sure it’s on, and that the breaker hasn’t tripped.

  3. 3

    Filter

A clogged filter can make the furnace overheat and shut itself off. If it’s grey all the way through, swap it.

  4. 4

    Front panel

The furnace won’t run with its door off or loose. Push it fully closed.

  5. 5

    Vent pipes outside

High-efficiency furnaces vent through two white plastic pipes on an outside wall. After a snowstorm, clear any drift or ice off them.

No AC

  1. 1

    Thermostat

Set to Cool, fan on Auto, set point below the room temperature.

  2. 2

    Power

Check the breaker for the indoor and outdoor units, and the grey disconnect box on the wall next to the outdoor unit.

  3. 3

    Ice on the lines

If the copper pipe or the coil is frosted, turn cooling off and run the fan only for a few hours. Then change the filter.

  4. 4

    Water near the furnace

A full drain pan or a tripped float switch shuts the AC off on purpose. Tell us when you call.

  5. 5

    Outdoor unit

Clear grass clippings, leaves and cottonwood fluff off the sides of the unit.

Rooftop unit down

  1. 1

    Schedule

Check the thermostat or building controls aren’t in unoccupied or holiday mode.

  2. 2

    Disconnect

Each unit has a disconnect switch on the roof next to it. Make sure nobody left it off after a service visit.

  3. 3

    Alarm codes

Write down any code on the thermostat, or the blinking light on the unit’s control board. It helps us figure out what’s wrong faster.

  4. 4

    Breakers

Reset a tripped breaker once. If it trips again, leave it off and call.

  5. 5

    Roof access

Only go up if it’s safe. If it isn’t, just tell us how to get on the roof.

Call 440-213-7798
Should I repair my system or replace it?

It mostly comes down to age and how often it breaks. If it’s under ten years old and one part failed, repairing it usually makes sense. If it’s past fifteen and keeps breaking, or the compressor or heat exchanger is gone, replacing it usually costs you less over the next few years. We’ll give you a price for both so you can decide.

How often should my system be serviced?

Once a year for each system. AC in the spring, furnace in the fall. Most manufacturers want a yearly service to keep the parts warranty good, so it’s worth keeping the paperwork.

How often should I change my air filter?

A standard 1-inch filter every one to three months, more often if you have pets or a lot of dust. The thicker 4 or 5-inch filters usually last four to six months. A clogged filter is the most common reason we see a system struggling.

What size system does my house need?

We work it out from the house, not from the old unit. That means the square footage, the insulation, and how many windows you have and which way they face. A unit that’s too big turns on and off constantly, which leaves the air damp and wears the compressor out early.

My upstairs never cools down. Is the air conditioner at fault?

Usually not. Most of the time it’s the ductwork: runs that are too small, too long, or not balanced. A new AC won’t fix that, so it’s worth having the ducts looked at first.

Do you work on businesses as well as homes?

Yes. For businesses we do rooftop units, boilers and hot water heating, ductwork and controls. For homes it’s furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps and mini-splits.
