Ductwork
Fixing a second floor that never cools
A second floor that never holds its temperature. We measured it, and the problem was airflow, not the size of the equipment, so the equipment stayed.

Scope of work
- Static pressure and airflow measurement
- Return air path enlargement
- Supply trunk resizing
- Branch takeoff and register replacement
- Post-work airflow verification
Notes
When the upstairs is never comfortable, it’s usually the ducts and not the furnace or AC. Putting in a bigger unit just makes it louder and leaves the air more humid.
We measure the static pressure to see what’s going on. A return that’s too small and a main duct that was never resized for an addition will starve the far rooms, no matter how big the unit is.
Opening up the return and resizing the main duct fixes the temperature difference between floors. It usually costs a lot less than new equipment.
